Review of the LG Optimus G

Did LG raise the bar and create a top-notch phone that will be futureproof for an entire two years?

Oh, the Optimus G. Coming out close to a year ago and many networks  still carry this phone in-store for an extensive discount. This phone was LG's first 'superphone' designed to shift the marketplace. We can certainly say this phone was a major success as LG has extended its lineup to the Optimus G Pro as well as the G2.

The Optimus G is a beautiful phone. It features Gorilla Glass 2.0 on both the front and back. The screen has little bezel, crammin a whole lot of screen into this frame. The display is a stunning 4.7 HD screen with 318 pixels per inch. This phone's backlight turns up extremely high, making it easily viewable outside. The Optimus G also has unique squared off edges to ensure a solid grasp of the phone.

This phone is frickin' quick. Feauturing a quad-core snapdragon processor at 1.5 Ghz, as well as 2 GB of RAM, this phone could out-process laptops from only a few years ago. On Android, this phone is buttery smoothe and plays the latest demanding games just fine. The G has 4G LTE and downloads on the network were astonishing. No noticeable difference between LTE and WI-FI on this phone.

The Optimus G comes with Android 4.1.2 JellyBean as well as a slight UI modification with LG's proprietary interface. There are many extras that come pre-installed such as SmartShare that allows you to stream your phone's display to a larger screen. LG also includes a nifty QuickMemo app to draw your own notes in a convenient and fun manner.

This phone is a great steal at anything less than $50 with a new 2-year contract. Luckily, many carriers are offering this phone at or below this price. While the Optimus G is speedy and sharp, it is important to note that the 2,100 mAh battery does not last as long as we would have liked. We were only able to use our phone moderately, and after an 8-hour work day, the low battery notification appeared. Besides the so-so battery life, this phone would be a great option for power-users who need a phone that will really perform until the end of their two year contract.
